Flat battery again

Hi all ,
Car wouldn't start this morning , put battery on charge and it started straight away when I got in from work, think there is a drain on the battery, when I just locked it up it looks as though the controls for the radio are still backlit , if you unlock it they don't appear to be on, question is are they glow in the dark ?

Mine don't glow in the dark. When was your battery replaced as it could be that it is just not holding its charge? Not sure if an alternator fault would show up?

Update the software on the radio. Dealer stuff...
Because of a bug on the firmware, it could drain the battery.

Battery was changed this time last year , the 1st time it let me down, as I didn't know how old it was, recently was away for three weeks and when I got back it was completely drained,
Alex
If it's a tsb job , should the dealers do that for free ?

Would it be worth pulling the fuse for the radio?

Depending on dealer, warranty period, etc.....
See the footnote: Normal warranty policies and procedures apply

Anyhow, anyone with dealer tools/software/interface could do that, it's a 15 minutes job.

You can, of course pull the fuse, but then it will be no radio... What's the point?

Hi Alex ,
I need the car to start in the mornings, I can cope without a radio until I can get the drain sorted.

I think Alex is right - its probably a software glitch and one that has been quite common on earlier Freely2s. - the routing of the ignition and radio connections is poorly designed - radio can stay on and kill the battery.
I assume you have read the threads about battery earth - needs to be a very good earth connection.

Hi trade wind ,
Yes that's the 1st route I went down, previous owner had already fitted another earth lead , but I was concerned this may have been corroded so I replaced it with new

Hi Andy, the radio and centre consol light bits are not glow in the dark - they are supposed to switch off shortly after you exit and lock - the software/firmware problem meant that they simply didn't shut down as they ought to. Dealer should be able to check and eliminate that as a cause fairly easily. My 2007 GS had a flat battery once when new - software fix cured it and has never let me down since.

With that money you can buy a dealer like diagnostic interface and software and DIY...
Info about that found here in the forum...

Pulled the fuse for the radio when I got back from work Friday pm , car has been ok since , battery was 12.2 this morning before starting car , seems to be radio module as suggested , hopefully will be back to normal after visit to dealers next week.

Merry Xmas

Andy
