Removable towbars

Have booked Freelander in for fitting of a removable tow-bar next week. Had been told that LR use a Brink tow-bar for the Freelander II. The tow-bar centre offered me a choice of Brink or Westfalia (both same price) but suggested that Westfalia is the better of the two, mainly because the locking system is better. Anyone had any experience of the removable tow-bars? Do you agree, or do you think the centre just has a better margin on the Westfalia?

Cheers DT

I have the Brink (Thule) removable on my FL2 which was fitted at the LR dealers before I took delivery. It was the type recommended by them and I was not given an alternative choice. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience of the Westfalia type. All I can comment on is that the Brink has an excellent locking system and works perfectly. Thumbs Up Hope this helps Smile

The only problem I had was electrical (no connection) which meant a revisit to the dealer to get this sorted, but I never got an explanation as to what was the problem (my wife collected the car and didn’t ask). Rolling Eyes

I rRecently fitted a witter removeable towbar and it works great, it didn't need any cutting of the bumper and was a doddle to install. Are you having it installed with LR if not make sure they are aware of the electrical issues that are discussed in earlier posts.

just seen the photo for the removable towbar

Looks to be a good set up, but the section your have had to remove from the plastic trim makes it not worth it due to the appearance IMO

Might be better if you could get some thing to put over the rough looking cuts, Like those 'U' shaped door edge protectors that just slot on

Sorry about not posting the pics.

The update is that the fitters got another batch of Westfalia from Germany and they were also offset, the reason is that the housing that the ball slots into on an entire batch has been welded out of centre making the ball skew left by 2cms.

I am still waiting for a replacement.

Regards
