Clutch stuck to the floor

Went out at lunchtime today to find that the Clutch was stuck to the floor!

No way to get the car in or out of gear - AA took 20 second look at it, checked that the Clutch fluid was there (it was) and towed me home from work there and then.

She's going into the garage on Monday to be fixed - Any ideas what's wrong and how much this costs to fix?

Is the clutch engaged or disengaged?

slave Cylinder failed?
can you lift the pedal or is it physically stuck?
I expect gearbox out to fix though
then New clutch whilst it is apart.

Pedal can be lifted back up, that's what the AA man did and then forced it into gear to pull up to his van to tow it. You need to stall it to stop though...

so the clutch plate is still engaging the fly wheel
on My older Defenders they used to suffer clutch fork failure.
I will take a look at the set up on Mine outside the gearbox and see if there is any poss failure point.

just been out to look
Not a hell of a lot I can see as the packaging is tight around the servo etc
looking on the Net it appears the slave cylinder and release bearing are 1 part
not spendy but gearbox out to change Sad
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CSC-CLUTCH-CENTRAL...1c41bf2cd9
shows the part
Lets hope the Master cylinder has failed this would be far cheaper to sort

Mechanic reckons it's a "monumental job" to get the gearbox out to change the clutch - this sounds expensive - he's arranging a tow truck on Monday to pick it up and getting me a courtesy car tomorrow so I remain mobile...

I hope monumental job doesn't equate to monumental bill??? Sad

There are indies advertising total clutch change for £730
I would do my own if out of warranty,
It is only nuts and bolts a person built it
It can be sorted readily enough.

Advanced factors on here do a good price for clutch and flywheel. My clutch is slipping a little bit so I'm going to wait and see if it gets worse. The indy I use reckons about £1000 for clutch/flywheel if he gets the parts or if I get the parts it works out about £800. The indy told me it was gearbox out to change clutch but its a fairly striagt forward (to him) task.

Some people change the flywheel when doing the clutch just because of the labour involved if the flywheel fails later on. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Recently had my clutch, dmf and slave cylinder replaced by an indie. Came to a shade over £1000. I believe the sub frame had to be removed to get box out. Freelander 2 HSE TD4 2007

What they said... Might be worth doing the rear oil seal as well....

Advance Factors is a site sponsor. PM him and I'm sure he will be able to help. A 3 piece clutch kit I believe has everything in it for the clutch side then there is the DMF. My Indy couldn't match the price of advance factors for the parts. My Indy told me to use LUK parts as in his opinion they were better than the LR Clutch parts. Advance Factors sell clutch and DMF for about £320. Plus there will be price for gearbox oil as I believe it has the be drained. I can't imagine all the parts costing £800 unless your garage included labour on that price? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
