My headlights were in auto ,it was dark when I left,so they are always on auto ,I could see fog patches ahead ,so put my Fog Lights on ,then

...because it's the law.

And I can honestly say that in all my years of driving cars fitted with front foglights, I have only ever used the front ones on two or three occasions. The fog is rarely so thick that visibility is reduced to less than 100m (at least where I live) Smile

As previously posted, the Sensor cannot detect Fog, if it is Foggy switch it to manual.

That's why the switch has a manual position for the driver to use their brain and judgement!

As for fog lights with sidelights....too many drivers do this and, as said, it's against the law...

"You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236). Law RVLR regs 25 & 27"

.....MUST use headlights and MAY use fog lights too. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

Does this mean though, if you feel the conditions are that bad that you turn your Fog Lights on, this then generates an invisible protection bubble around you then become immune to the bad weather and can drive at 70+, this seems to be an optional extra fitted on BMW's Audi's etc. Thud .
