Wranglers

What are these like in the snow? Have them fitted on my freely which I got in the summer. Don't know whether to sell my Wintrac extremes and take a chance? All comments appreciated.

I used them for two winters in pretty deep snow on a S (no terrain response) and had no problems at all with sensible driving.

Last winter was so mild, I cannot really make a sensible comment with car new in Jan 2013. The Continentals I had on my previous 2008 Freely were pretty good over several cold winters incuding snow over ice where terrain response made me think no wheel slip but the wheel tracks showed there was (at different corners at different times).
No complaints about Wranglers on mud, grass, flood, ford, leaves or Tarmac, wearing well! Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Have found Wranglers to be excellent in snow - on and off road. If I had winter tyres I would however fit them to save tyre life over the winter months - I think you would save more that way than flogging them.

Great tyres. Had these on when the bad winter hit a few years back, never missed a beat.

Wranglers were excellent in deep snow in Belgium a couple of years ago. BUT, they were brand new with max tread depth and also I was surprised at the way the locals were driving their BMWs, vans, etc quite normally (but on winter tyres, of course). This encouraged me to buy a set of Wintracs to get that extra security. Haven't had cause to try them out in snow since of course! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Decisions decisions. Just moved over here and apparently the winters aren't that bad normally. In the Pennines we used to get it bad, hence the Wintracs.

+1 for the wranglers. always had them on my S and never got stuck. Mind I think its as much about the driver as the tyres - within reason of course.....

Petefeet,
given your location you might have a look at site sponsors AJS. They do a very good price and in fact when I bought my Wintracs they found me a set of DA tyres (cosmetic rejects) at an astonishingly good price. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Basically, they are seconds. "Cosmetic" because the performance is not affected - it just doesn't look quite right. The set I bought, neither AJS nor I were able to work out what was wrong. Only difference is letters DA stamped on one sidewall.
Apparently these are quite common and are offered to certain dealers at a big discount. I don't know how often firms like AJS get hold of them. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
