Sorry, I should have said . Towing from storage was simple even tho there is a major roundabout about 200yrds from the storage site . Saw a gap in the traffic , foot down and the outfit took off . On the motorway we soon got up to speed . I must admit I used the command shift once on the motorway to try and get the car into a higher gear for the speed I was doing . I normally tow at around 62moh on my galaxy . Any faster ant the outfit got twitchy and it also turned out to be the most economical speed too (28mpg) . With the freelander in auto at that speed the car seemed to be in 4th . My mpg on this run wasn't good (22) , I kinda blam my self as I was fafing around with the gears . One thing that is very impressive was the stability , I was up to 70mph at times passing HGV and horse boxes and not a twitch , solid as a rock . Re the towing mpg the car had only done 200 miles so it might be a bit on fair on the car , we are away for a week so the mileage will build up and we will see what it's like on the way home. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Having it in sixth may not give you the best mpg, some have said that holding fifth can give you a better return, in sixth at 70 your only turning over 1800rpm, holding fifth puts the revs up a bit more.

22 is pretty fair to what you will get, some on here don't get that solo, you have to forgive that for the comfortable towing, stability, the knowledge that you will get off your pitch with no fuss. My fuel consumption has improved by 2mpg since replacing the Bailey I had.

I trust then the pitches available at Chez CG's will be better at the fast approaching BBQ

I usually find that at 60mph towing, the FL2 prefers to be in 5th although a quick foot off the accelerator and applied gently will shift it into 6th.
This isn't ideal for me so I tow at 65mph where it settles quite nicely into 6th, on saying that it's also dependent on the weight and my 'van' is a Lunar 4 berth 1295 kg with payload, quite light compared to some.
But the trick while in 'drive' to force a change up is like I said, take the foot off the throttle momentarily and it will change up most times, then re-apply.
Again dependent on the weight of your tow but my 3000 mile trip from home to home touring France in June gave me an indicated 28.something mpg so I'm sure yours will improve in time.

Oh and for those 'tut tutters' I know the limit is 60mph

pitch testing before your arrival,It proved impossible to get fire extinguishing equipment onsite in any reasonable time frame, so pitch passed the fire test

The manual states to cover a 1000 miles minimum before towing , and load a car up by using a higher gear when it's only done a couple of hundred miles is very detrimental.
My auto used to sit in 6th at 75+ happily all day long in France but to sit at 60 it would hunt up and down the box.
My mpg towing was never more than 19-22 with the auto but get 26-28 with my manual one.
