Locking the car with the boot *open*

Now this may be a strange concept to consider it locked but as I do a lot of shooting and gundog demos at country fairs, we often leave the dogs in the car and I've been looking for a way to secure the car but give them plenty of fresh air.

Obviously locking the car with the boot open does sod all and sounds the alarm, I've looked at getting a VentLock but heard they don't work on Freelander 2s (they don't work on D4's and Evoques from 12 onwards apparently).

So with our pack locked up in our TransK9 crate (good luck pulling 150kg of crate and dogs out) I found that using the blade key in the fob to lock the car manually from the passenger door locked all the doors fine with no horn sounding.

Not sure whether it dead locks it but its good enough for example when we are doing our gundog demos and have the car left at the edge of the arena so the public can come up and see the dogs but dont have to worry about pikeys coming along and nicking stuff out the inside.

Thought someone else may find it useful to know!

Or lock the car (one press so as not to invoke the volumetric) with the remote then use the remote to open the boot, the car doors remain in a locked and alarmed state.

Or move manually the switch lever in the boot door locking mechanism in order for the car to think the door is closed.
Than use the fob to lock/unlock the car normally.
Don't forget to "open" the boot door from the door switch/handle before slamming the door shut. Otherwise you won't be able to close the boot door and you may damage the lock.

This was my first thought, the horn still sounded after manually moving the lock.

You need to push the lock through two clicks, then it works just fine. I do this from time to time, usually using a bungee and leaving it hanging from the lock as a reminder that I've done it. Can also hook the bungee onto the floor-mounted part of the lock to partially-close the tailgate if its particularly wet, cold or windy.

If I want anything out of the boot I just press the tailgate button the car remains locked but the boot is open it has never set the alarm off

Actually, if the tailgate is already open (which it will be as you'll have let the dogs out) flipping the latch shut with whatever is at hand is a lot easier then having to close up the flap at the front of the cages (so you can shut the tailgate), move all the leads, coffee cups, etc, which are always lying around, close the tailgate, lock the car, open the tailgate again, open the flap on the crates again, ...

Sometimes you have to have done these things to see the issues involved!

Or luckily have two fobs with temperamental boot unlock switches Whistle But yeah, that way would be simpler Laughing

Edit:
