You can (and should) use quote in those situations, to get things "back on track", but the quote button should not be used in place of "post reply". It's usually completely unnecessary to quote all of the post you want to reply to, and just adds to page loading times.

I need to lie down, good job the spelling police are away but at least you read it, joking aside it does seem trivial to some people but in this day of tablets and smartphones it makes a big difference with page loading and readability.
