Yesterday I had my HSE TD4 chiptuned according to the RICA technology (http://rica.topclick.nl/g236231); this is the only tuning system supported and allowed by Landrover NL, so no warranty issues. Exact specs will follow, but I should have now 185 BHP and 500 NM torque. Anyone else had a chiptuning done?

I am suprised to hear that the chip is allowed by LR NL.

I believe here in the UK, if a chip is installed and the engine develops a fault, it up to you as the customer to prove that the chip was not to blame, and LR must prove it was. Bit of a no win situation.

Unless you need the extra power, I can't think why! as there are not too many boy racer FL2 owners, of coarse if you have a big fat horse and a horse box that weighs 2000kg the extra power may come in handy.

I guess LR might approve a chip if it just remaps the power band within LR's own limits?

Things in The Netherlands work slightly differently and many options are supplied by the importer rather than the OEM to reduce the overall cost of the car through taxes, and because of this the importers generally act idependently.

Chip tuning is quite normal to be offered by the dealers over here and was an option on my A3 1.8T. Dealers here will sell tuned cars that in the UK I can't imagine a mainstream dealer touching. I was surprissed to find my Audi dealer here was selling a 420bhp Audi S3.......

If something goes wrong it is not LR who will be responsible but instead the importer will take the hit.

I thought they reprogrammed the existing motormanagement chip instead of replacing it, but anyway I keep full LR warranty.
Main reason for me to do the tuning is not to drive faster or have a better jumpstart when the lights turn green or tow a heavy load, but to have a smoother ride and an improved fuel consumption. I drove a similar tuned car before to experience the difference and I noticed it immediately: less need to switch gear and a very smoot ride; also accelerating in 5th and 6th was easy.

It's too early to have accurate averages for the fuel consumption, but I did a short testdrive: a 30 km track driving at a constant 110 kmh gave 7.4 before and 7.1 after the tuning indicating a 4.05% lower consumption. This is in line with the 4-7% 'literature' figures on chiptuning (see various articles on the Internet);

well.. my average cons is abt 9 l / 100km ....... when driving at 80-90 kmh it goes dwn to 6l/100km......

Fuel consumption figs (to add to those already worked out!)
6 ltr/100 km = 47.0 mpg
7 = 40.3
8 = 35.3
9 = 31.3
10 = 28.2
My auto now doing approx 8.5 ltr/100km (33 mpg), and is improving all the time.

How this will affect the T - Response modes (snow, mud, sand) ????

Efthys my guess is that it wouldn't. TR is independent of the horse power. I believe that the i6 and the td4 both have the same TR, although there is a 75bhp difference between the two.

It also advises that the dealership's remove all records if they have been chipping on site
